DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2014) – Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) nearly posted her 13th double-double of the season, finishing with a team-high eight kills, as the Mercy College volleyball team faced the University of New Haven on Thursday evening at the Charger Gymnasium.

The Chargers are now 16-5 on the season, while the Mavericks fall to 4-19.

The opening set of the match saw Mercy hang tough with the hosts, trailing only 13-9 midway through the frame, receiving two kills from White. However, an 8-0 run by New Haven gave the Chargers a 21-9 advantage and they would hold on to take a 1-0 lead.

New Haven jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the second stanza and would not look back in securing the set.

After Mercy scored the opening point of the final set, the Chargers stormed back and rattled off eight unanswered to take an 8-1 lead and would build a 24-10 lead late in the set. The Mavericks wouldn't go down without a fight as they scored four unanswered, receiving a kill from White and a block from freshman Destinee Simpson (Westhampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) to make it 24-14 and force a New Haven timeout. The momentum would be short lived as the Chargers followed the timeout with a kill to seal the win.

White added eight digs, a service ace and a block assist, while Simpson ended the night with five kills and three total blocks. Sophomore Floriana Rraci  (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) paced the Mavericks on the defensive end, finishing the match with 14 digs. Senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep) helped orchestrate the Mercy offense, ending the night with a team-high 17 assists while contributing seven digs.

Senior Sonia Morales (San Fernando, Calif./Discovery Prep (L.A. Mission College)) slammed home three kills, while sophomores Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J./Thomas A. Edison) and Michelle Luna (Costa Mesa, Calif./Costa Mesa) produced seven and five digs, respectively.

Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks return home for an ECC matchup with Daemen (1-23, 1-10) on Saturday, October 25th at 11 a.m.
