Kluber Scores as Field Hockey Faces Bellarmine in the Show Me State.
Box Score ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Oct. 25, 2014)- Senior Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) scored off a Jackie Ballin (Cupertino, Calif. / Cupertino) assist, as the Mercy College field hockey team faced the Knights of Bellarmine University on the campus of Lindenwood University on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights improve to 7-6 with the 5-1 victory, while the Mavericks fall to 1-12.
The Knights dominated from the opening whistle as they scored three unanswered goals in the first half to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.
The one bright spot in the first half, saw freshman Olivia Kelly (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) make 10 of her 13 saves in the opening stanza.
In the second half, Mercy finally got on the scoreboard as Bellarmine goalkeeper Alex Moro made a save on a penalty stroke attempt by senior Kristine Carl (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston). The ball bounced back to Ballin, who made a quick one timer to Kluber for the score.
The Knights scored twice in the second half and kept the game out of reach.
For Mercy, Kelly finished with 13 saves, while Ballin finished with a team-high three shots.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action, tomorrow, Oct. 26, as they face the Lions of Lindenwood University at 1:00 p.m.
