Ballin and Grandprez Score as Field Hockey Faces Drew University
Box Score MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 29, 2014)- Sophomore Jackie Ballin (Cupertino, Calif. / Cupertino) and freshman Geraldine Grandprez (Wanze, Belgium / IHECS Bruxelles) scored unassisted goals, as the Mercy College field hockey team faced the Rangers of Drew University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rangers improve to 4-11 with the 3-2 victory, while the Mavericks fall to 1-14.
Mercy got on the scoreboard first, as Ballin scored on the rebound of an initial shot taken by sophomore Emily Michaels (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford). The Mavericks led 1-0 in the 7th minute.
Drew responded with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Mavericks defense kept the Rangers from extending the lead. Mercy cut the Drew lead to 3-2 in the 63rd minute, as Grandprez scored off a rebound.
Mercy would run out of time, as Drew held on for the 3-2 victory.
For Mercy, freshman Olivia Kelly (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) made three saves in 70 minutes of work.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday Nov. 1, as they will host the Golden Lions of Dowling College at 1:00 p.m.
