White Leads Volleyball Against ECC Rival Bridgeport
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2014) – Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) slammed home a team-high five kills as the Mercy College volleyball team faced the University of Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference (ECC) road match on Thursday evening at Hubbell Gym.
The Knights improve to 20-2 overall and remain perfect in league play with a 14-0 mark, while the Mavericks are now 5-23 and 1-13 in ECC action.
White recorded her first kill of the night to make it 1-1 in the first set, but the home team showed why it is the top team in the ECC when they followed with five unanswered to take a 6-2 lead and would not look back in securing the first set.
The second set saw White put down two kills in the frame, but that would not be enough as Bridgeport found its way past Mercy to take a 2-0 lead.
The Mavericks took their only lead in the match by scoring the first point of the third set on one of the Knights six attack errors on the night, before the hosts rattled off nine straight to build a 9-1 lead and distance themselves from Mercy to secure the set and match.
White also contributed five digs and a service ace, while sophomore Floriana Rraci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) paced the Mavericks with seven digs. Sophomore Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J./Thomas A. Edison) and junior Abi Foti (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) chipped in with four and three digs, respectively and senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep) ended the night with a team-high four assists.
Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks return home for Senior Night on Tuesday, November 4th against ECC foe Queens College with first serve set for 7 p.m.
