White Smacks a Season-High 30 Kills, as Volleyball Sweeps Pace, 3-0

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2014) - Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev./ Douglas) smacked a season-high 30 kills and posted a .565 hitting percentage, as the Mercy College volleyball team swept the Setters of Pace University on Saturday morning.

The Mavericks improve to 4-12 overall, while the Setters fall to 3-11 overall.

Mercy trailed 13-8 in the first set on back-to back kills for the Setters. The Mavericks battled back and took the lead, as sophomore Floriana Rraci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./ Walter Panas) served for five straight Maverick points. Freshman Sa'Naya Johnson (Elizabeth, N.J./ Elizabeth) and senior Sonia Morales (San Fernando, Calif./ L.A. Mission College) each nailed a kill late, as Mercy took the first set 25-21.

In the second set, White started to build momentum as she smacked four kills in a row to take an early 4-1 lead. The Setters didn't go quietly, as they battled back and tied the set up at 23-23. White helped Mercy closeout the set, on a kill and a block assist with freshman Destinee Simpson (Westhampton, N.J. / Rancocas Valley Regional).

In the third set, White was locked in as she totaled 10 of 30 kills in the third set. This effort helped Mercy complete the sweep of the Setters.

White fell one kill shy of her career-high, and two kills shy of matching the total number of kills for the entire Pace team.

For Mercy, White added 15 digs, while Senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz./ Seton Catholic Prep) had 39 assists and seven digs. Rraci finished with 10 digs and three service aces, while Morales had three kills and five block assists.

Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks return to action on Tuesday Oct. 7, as they travel to Flushing, N.Y. to take on the Knights of Queens College at 7:00 p.m.
