Carrillo Nets Overtime Game-Winner, as No. 25 Women's Soccer Rallies to Defeat Roberts Wesleyan, 4-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2014)- Senior Jessica Carrillo (San Diego, Calif. / Miramar College)  scored the game-winner in the 99th minute, as the No. 25 Mercy College women's soccer team rallied from a two goal deficit to defeat the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday afternoon.

The Mavericks improve to 9-1 overall, and 4-0 in the East Coast Conference, while the Redhawks fall to 5-4 overall, and 1-3 in the ECC.

After dispatching Daemen, 2-0, on Friday afternoon and taking in the beautiful scenery of Niagara Falls on Saturday, the Mavericks went back to work on Sunday, as they faced the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College.

The Redhawks struck first on their second shot taken, as Heaven Palamita nailed a shot from just inside the 18-yard box to take a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.

Mercy would respond in the 34th minute, as junior Ashley Johnson (Phoenix, Ariz. / Paradise Valley CC) played a thru ball to Carrillo off a free kick situation. Carrillo when one-on-one with Redhawks goalkeeper Marissa Sell. Sell came out to play the ball and Carrillo lofted it over her head to tie the game up at 1-1.

The game remained deadlocked at halftime.

In the second half, Roberts Wesleyan attempted to break the game open, as they scored goals in the 59th and 81st minutes, respectively. The Redhawks held a 3-1 lead, as the clock entered the 82nd minute.

Mercy would come down on the very next possession of the ball, and cut the Roberts Wesleyan lead to 3-2, as junior Jessica DeLeon (Phoenix, Ariz. / Paradise Valley CC) tapped the ball in on a pile-up in front of the Redhawks' goal.

The Mavericks scored the game-tying goal almost immediately, as senior MacKenzie Cochrane (Mission Viejo, Calif. / Fresno State University) netted a shot from six yards out to complete the comeback.

The game was tied at the end of regulation, and both teams needed an extra 10 minutes to decide the outcome.

In the overtime session, Carrillo got out on a breakaway and nailed the game-winner in the 99th minute to allow Mercy to come away with the 4-3 victory.

For Mercy, junior Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y. /Kingston) played all 99 minutes, and made three saves.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return to action on Thursday Oct. 9, as they will travel to Nyack, N.Y. to face the Warriors of Nyack College at 3:00 p.m.
