White Ties Career-High as Volleyball Faces Queens
Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2014)- Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev./ Douglas) tied a career-high with 31 kills, as the Mercy College volleyball team faced the Knights of Queens College on Tuesday evening.
The Knights improve to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in the East Coast Conference with the 3-1 victory, while the Mavericks fall to 4-13 overall and 0-7 in the ECC.
White totaled nine kills as the Mavericks took the first set, 25-22. In the beginning of the second set, Mercy held an early 6-2 lead but Queens climbed back in and eventually took the set to tie the game up at 1-1.
In a tight third set, back-to-back kills by White and junior Abi Foti (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) had the Mavericks on the verge of taking the set at 24-22. The Knights again rallied to force a fourth set.
In the fourth set, Queens dominated the beginning, but Mercy made a late run to cut the lead to 22-20. The Knights closed out the set with three straight points to take the match.
For Mercy, White added 17 digs, while senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz. /Seton Catholic Prep) had 43 assists and eight digs. Freshman Destinee Simpson (Westhampton, N.J./ Rancocas Valley Regional) had nine kills, and sophomore Floriana Rraci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) had 18 digs.
Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks return to action on Thursday Oct. 9, as they host the Lions of Molloy College at 7:00 p.m.
