NYACK, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2014)- Freshman Alyssa Iannuzzi (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) scored the game winner on an assist by junior Jessica DeLeon (Phoenix, Ariz. / Paradise Valley CC), as the No. 16 Mercy College women's soccer team blanked the Warriors of Nyack College, 2-0, on Thursday afternoon.

The Mavericks improve to 10-1, while the Warriors fall to 2-10.

The Mavericks took a break from the grind of the East Coast Conference schedule, as they traveled across the pond to face the Warriors of Nyack College in non-conference action.

Mercy looked to make quick work of the Warriors, as DeLeon played a thru ball to Iannuzzi. Iannuzzi trapped the ball and ripped a shot from 15 yards out to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute.

The Mavericks dominated the rest of the half, as back-to-back headers' by freshman Samantha Scovel (La Mirada, Calif. / La Mirada) and junior Olivia Laverdiere (San Diego, Calif. /Miramar College) were stopped by the Nyack defense.

Mercy held the 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Mercy kept attacking and finally found the back of the net in the 66th minute, as senior Jessica Carrillo (San Diego, Calif. /Miramar College) scored after her shot was deflected off the Warriors goalkeeper, Brianna Bianchi.

The Mavericks outshot the Warriors 16-3, and didn't allow any shots on goal.

For Mercy, junior Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) improved to 10-1, and notched her sixth shutout of the season.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the No. 16 Mavericks return to action on, Saturday Oct. 11, as they will host the undefeated Golden Lions of Dowling College in a battle for first place in the conference at 12:00 p.m.
