White Posts 18 Kills Against ECC Foe Molloy
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2014)- Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas) smacked 18 kills, as the Mercy College volleyball team faced the Lions of Molloy College on Thursday evening.
The Lions improve to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks fall to 4-14 overall and 0-8 in the ECC.
The first set was a fierce back and forth battle. Mercy took a two point lead at 20-18 on back-to-back kills for freshman Destinee Simpson (Westhampton, N.J. / Rancocas Valley Regional) and junior Abi Foti (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford). The Lions won the set on a 4-1 run.
In the second set, Mercy started to come together. Sophomore Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) served for seven straight points to give Mercy an early 9-2 lead. Mercy held a 16-7 lead midway through the set before Molloy made a run.
Molloy climbed back in and tied the set up at 17-17, but Mercy ultimately took the set, 25-21.
The final two sets were tight throughout, but Molloy ended up closing out to win both sets and the match.
For Mercy, Simpson, freshman Sa'Naya Johnson (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth), and senior Sonia Morales (San Fernando, Calif. / L.A. Mission College) all added six kills. White added 17 digs, while senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz. / Seton Catholic Prep) had 33 assists.
Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday Oct. 11, as they travel to Wilmington, Del. to take on the Lighting of Goldey-Beacom University at 1:00 p.m.
