White Records 16th Double-Double as Volleyball Hosts Queens For Senior Night
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2014) – Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) picked up her 16th double-double of the season by way of a match-high 20 kills and 15 digs as the Mercy College volleyball team hosted East Coast Conference (ECC) foe Queens College for Senior Night on Tuesday evening at Mercy Gymnasium.
Before the game, seniors White, McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep) and Sonia Morales (San Fernando, Calif./Discovery Prep (L.A. Mission College)) were recognized for their achievements during their Mercy careers.
The Knights improve to 11-14 overall and 5-10 in ECC play, while the Mavericks are now 5-24 overall and 1-14 in league play.
Mercy got off to a quick start in the opening set, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead helped by a pair of kills by White. The Mavericks led 12-11 midway through the frame before the guests scored four unanswered to take their first lead of the set at 15-12 and would lead the rest of the way to take a 1-0 lead.
The second set went back and forth until the end. Morales nailed home a kill to get the Mavericks within one at 22-21, but the Knights would rattle off three consecutive points to claim the set and take a 2-0 advantage.
Mercy built a 4-1 lead in the final set, using a pair of kills from White and a kill each from freshman Destinee Simpson (Westhampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) and junior Abi Foti (Bedford, N.H./Bedford), but Queens would rattle off six straight points to take a 7-4 lead and would lead the rest of the way to secure the set and match.
Morales concluded her senior night with ten kills and an efficient .667 hitting percentage. Ronan capped off the night with 32 assists and two kills, while sophomore Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J./Thomas A. Edison) added 14 digs. Foti produced eight digs and two kills and Simpson ended the night with five kills. Also, contributing on the defensive end for the Mavericks was sophomore Floriana Rraci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) who had 12 digs.
