White Puts Down 11 Kills as Volleyball Concludes 2014 Season at Molloy
Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Nov. 6, 2014) – Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) slammed home a team-high 11 kills in her final match as a Maverick as the Mercy College volleyball team concluded its 2014 season at Molloy College in an East Coast Conference (ECC) showdown on Thursday evening at Quealy Gymnasium.
White concludes her outstanding four-year career as a Maverick with a school-record 1,934 kills and 4,786 total attacks.
The Lions improve to 12-17 overall and 6-10 in ECC play, while the Mavericks finish the season 5-25 overall and 1-15 in league play.
Mercy led early on in the first set and looked to give the hosts a hard time on Senior Night, building a 10-9 advantage before Molloy took their first lead of the match with three unanswered to stake claim to a 12-10 lead. The Mavericks clawed their way back and tied up the score at 21-21 late in the frame, but three straight by the hosts put them up 24-21 and they held on to take a 1-0 advantage.
The second set saw Molloy get out to an early 4-0 lead and they would lead 10-4 before Mercy stormed back and evened up the score at 16-16 on a kill by freshman Destinee Simpson (Westhampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional). The two teams would go back and forth until the Lions tallied two points in a row after a White kill to make it 24-21 in favor of the home team. White put down a kill to make it 24-22, but Molloy would hold on to take a 2-0 lead.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 7-6 lead in the final set before the Lions rattled off eight of the next nine points to take a 14-8 lead and they would maintain the edge for the remainder of the set to seal the victory.
Senior Sonia Morales (San Fernando, Calif./Discovery Prep (L.A. Mission College)) capped off her time in a Mercy uniform with six kills, while fellow senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep) ended her career with 22 assists on the evening and finishes her career ranked third in school history with 3,113 assists. Simpson ended the night with five kills, while sophomores Floriana Rraci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) and Niccole Soriano (Elizabeth, N.J./Thomas A. Edison) added 14 and eight digs, respectively.
