Goodson Grabs Nine Boards as Women's Basketball Faces Molloy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Dec. 17, 2014)- Junior Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y./ NYIT) grabbed nine boards and added six points as the Mercy College women's basketball team was downed by the Lions of Molloy College, 84-56. 

The Lions improve to 4-4 overall, 1-3 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks fall to 7-3 overall and 1-2 in the ECC. 

The Mavericks took an early 5-3 lead on a three pointer by junior Tatiana Parish (Los Angeles, Calif. / Mt. San Antonio CC) at the 14:18 mark.  The Lions broke the game open by using a 22-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 27-5 lead with just under 11 minutes to play. 

Mercy would then out score Molloy in the final 11 minutes, behind seven points from the current ECAC Player of the Week in senior Brandone Roberts (Jessup, Md./Nyack College).The Lions maintained a 46-23 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Mavericks put together an early 6-0 run that was capped off by back-to-back jumpers for junior Briana Rhett (New Rochelle, N.Y./ Sullivan County CC). Mercy trailed 46-29 with just over 15 minutes to play. 

The Lions controlled the rest of the game, ballooning the lead to as large as 28 points, which helped Molloy cruise to their first conference victory.  

For Mercy, Roberts led the Mavericks with nine points, while senior Tanayzha Augustine (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./ Poughkeepsie) finished with eight points and six rebounds.

Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday Dec. 20, as they will travel to Flushing, N.Y. to face the Knights of Queens College at 4:00 pm.
