Goodson's Double-Double Lifts Women's Basketball to 60-51 victory over Berkeley

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 4, 2014)- Junior Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y./ NYIT) notched a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds, while adding four blocks in the 60-51 victory over the Knights of Berkeley College on Thursday evening.

The Mavericks improve to 6-1 overall, while the Knights fall to 4-1.

An extremely low scoring first half was capped off by an 11-0 run in the final 07:30. Junior Tatiana Parish (Los Angeles, Calif. / Mt. San Antonio CC) nailed two triples to lead all scorers. Goodson scored four of her eight first half points during the run.  

Senior Brandone Roberts (Jessup, Md. /Nyack College) grabbed nine boards, as the Mavericks held a 26-12 lead at the break.

The Knights only made four field goals and posted a 10.5% field goal percentage.

In the second half, Knights' guards Janay Thomas and Champagne Hazel combined for 26 points, to cut the halftime lead to nine as the final buzzer sounded.

Junior Briana Rhett (New Rochelle, N.Y. /Sullivan CC) went 3-for-6 from the free throw line, including converting an old-fashion three point play, down the stretch. Junior Erin Copeland (Kansas City, Kan. / Univ. of Illinois-Springfield) finished with nine points, seven rebounds and six assists, while senior Tanayzha Augustine (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. /Poughkeepsie) finished with eight points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks return to action on Wednesday Dec 10th, as they host the Golden Lions of Dowling College in the East Coast Conference opener at 5:30 p.m.
