INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Mar. 11, 2014) – Mercy College men's lacrosse junior Jesse Wood (Binghamton, N.Y. / Seton Catholic Central) and graduate student Kevin Glueckert (Bethpage, N.Y. / Univ. at Albany) rank first and fourth in the nation in points per game and faceoff percentage, respectively, according to the updated NCAA statistical rankings released this morning.

Wood, who was just named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season, leads the nation with 6.60 points per game – more than half a point better than his next competitor.  The junior also tops the country in total points with a whopping 33 through his first five games – five more than the next competitor.  Wood also ranks third in assists per game (3.00), seventh in goals per game (3.60) and 11th in shot percentage (.581) and has been one of the most well-rounded attackmen in the country thus far, adding 25 ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Glueckert is tied for fourth in Division II with an incredible .714 save percentage, recently outplaying the No. 9-ranked faceoff specialist at the time in the 12-6 win over Saint Anselm College.  The Division I transfer is just .024 points out of third and trails the national leader by only .077 with a golden opportunity to build on his percentage in today's matchup at the College of Saint Rose, which has posted a meager .328 percentage as a team.

The Mavericks, which received votes in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II Coaches' Poll for the third straight week, rank among the nation's top teams in multiple statistical categories as well.  Mercy leads the nation with a whopping 222 ground balls through five games while ranking third in caused turnovers per game (12.40) and fourth as a team in faceoff percentage (.672).  The Mavericks boast the 10th-most potent offense in Division II (13.20 goals per game) and 13th-ranked defense (8.00), which has resulted in the 11th-best scoring margin in the country (+5.20).

Head Coach Jordan Levine will lead Wood, Glueckert and the rest of the Mavericks at Saint Rose this afternoon at 3 p.m.  Follow the action via Livestats, which are accessible through the team's schedule page at MercyAthletics.com, and in-game updates via Twitter: @MercyMavericks.
