Longo Goes 3-for-3 in Game One as Baseball Faces Stonehill

Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE, Fla. (Mar. 14, 2014)- Sophomore Steve Longo (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) went 3-for-3 in the first game of a Friday doubleheader between the Mercy College baseball team and the Skyhawks of Stonehill College. The Mavericks dropped both games to fall to 3-6 overall, while the Skyhawks improve to 10-5 overall.
Game 1: Stonehill 6, Mercy 0
Senior Jesus Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y. / Fordham Prep (NJIT) when 1-for-2, while freshman Michael Grudzinski (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) went 1-for-3. Senior Joseph O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y. / Long Beach (Nassau CC) pitched three innings and struck out two batters.
Game 2: Stonehill 2, Mercy 1 (8 inn.)
Mercy tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, when sophomore Scott Hagan (Mamaroneck, N.Y. / Mamaroneck (SUNY Binghamton) drove in freshman Reed Farrier (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury), who reached on a walk to start the inning.
The game went to extra innings, and the Skyhawks picked up the victory in the eighth. Hagan and junior Sal Palumbo (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) both went 1-for-3, while senior Bryan Greig (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) pitched a complete game allowing just six hits while striking out nine batters.
Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks wrap up their stay in Fort Pierce on Saturday, Mar. 15, as they will face the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University in a doubleheader that begins at 3:00 p.m.
