BETHPAGE, N.Y. (Mar. 18, 2014) – The Mercy College men's lacrosse team will host Saint Michael's College under the lights at Bethpage High School on Tuesday, Mar. 18 at 7 p.m.

Game Notes

The Mavericks come into the game with a 5-2 overall record, most recently falling in an evenly matched East Coast Conference battle at No. 10 NYIT on Saturday in which Mercy led 5-4 at halftime.  Mercy also picked up a key 11-6 victory at the College of Saint Rose on Tuesday.

Junior Jesse Wood (Binghamton, N.Y. / Seton Catholic Central) maintained his Division II lead in points and points per game, tallying nine to bring his season total to 42 in just seven games.  The attackman also ranks third in the ECC with 32 ground balls and has put a whopping 82.6 percent of his shots on goal, converting them at a 54.3 percent clip.

Wood is joined in the attack by sophomore Kyle Stockton (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) and junior Zack Haun (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca East Senior), who have totaled 12 and 10 points, respectively, while freshman Chris Lopez (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) is tied for the ECC lead among midfielders with 11 goals, including four on man-up opportunities.  Graduate student Kevin Glueckert (Bethpage, N.Y. / Univ. at Albany) has been a dominant force on faceoffs in his first year of Division II ball, winning 71 percent (89-126) to rank fourth in the nation and grabbing an ECC-leading 40 ground balls.

On the defensive side, junior Owen Krezmien (Buffalo, N.Y. / Canisius College) leads the team with 12 caused turnovers and has grabbed 18 ground balls while sophomore Danny Chillianis (Bethpage, N.Y. / Bethpage) and graduate student Matthew Carrello (Bethpage, N.Y. / Univ. at Albany) have combined to add 15 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls.  Sophomore A.J. Pellati (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) ranks fourth in the ECC with an 8.55 goals against average and fifth with a .530 save percentage.

Saint Michael's has started the season 0-3, with all three losses coming to ranked opponents, including a season-opening 12-4 loss to NYIT, the only common opponent the Purple Knights and Mavericks share at this point in the spring.  The Purple Knights have struggled on offense, scoring just 5.00 on a .169 shot percentage, due in part to a meager .071 man-up conversion percentage and a near-five-minute penalty average per game.

Junior Evan Antolino leads Saint Michael's with seven points while senior Tim McDonald and senior Cooper Quenneville pace the squad with four goals apiece.  Quenneville also tops the team with 16 ground balls and a .600 faceoff percentage junior Luke Solms has caused three turnovers and picked up nine ground balls on defense.  Sophomore T.J. Bicknell has recorded an 11.50 goals against average and .540 save percentage in two starts in the cage.

The Mavericks will be looking to avenge a 14-9 loss last season in which Mercy took a 3-2 lead in the first quarter before a Saint Michael's scored three straight goals on either side of halftime to cruise to the victory.  Wood led the Mavericks with four points on three goals and one assist and Stockton chipped in two goals while the departed Marty Vanzo tallied six points and Pete Donnally netted a hat trick.  Chris DeMairo stopped 14 of 22 shots in the cage while Mike Cashman made 11 saves for Mercy.
