The Mavericks improve to 4-8 overall and 1-0 in the ECC while the Knights fall to 4-3 overall, and 0-1 in the ECC.

Mercy jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Hagan doubled down the left line to score senior Ken Post (Closter, N.J. / St. Joseph's Regional), who doubled to right center to get on base.  After senior Jesus Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y. / Fordham Prep (NJIT)  reached on an error by the third baseman, junior Sal Palumbo (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) singled up the middle to score Hagan.

Queens cut the Mavericks lead to 3-1 on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the third. The Knights then tied the game at 3-3 going into the ninth after a balk and wild pitch.

In the top of ninth, the Knights picked up two quick outs and the game looked headed to extra innings with Post coming to bat. Post walked and then Hagan reached on an error to put men on first and second.  Coach Greiner put freshman Dan Cleary (Smithtown, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) on second to pinch run for Post.

McQuade would break the 3-3 tie as he doubled to left center to score Hagan and Cleary for a 5-3 Mercy lead. Jaile would add the icing on the cake, as he singled to left, and McQuade scored.

Sophomore Blake Coalla (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C Ketcham) picked up the save in bottom of the inning to preserve the win. Freshman Mike DeFilippis (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield Warde) pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run while striking out five batters.
