Greig Strikes out 10 as Baseball Faces Bridgeport in ECC Doubleheader

Box Score 2 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Apr. 12, 2014) – Junior Bryan Greig (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) struck out 10 batters in Game Two as the Mercy College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport.
The Purple Knights improve 12-17-1 overall and 5-9 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks fall to 9-18 overall and 6-8 in the ECC.
Game 1: Bridgeport 10, Mercy 0
Seniors Andrew Kendel (Maywood, N.J. / Hackensack) and Jesus Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y. / Fordham Prep [NJIT]) and junior Sal Palumbo (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) all went 1-for-3. Freshman Matt Nalbone (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) struck out seven batters in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Game 2: Bridgeport 3, Mercy 1
The game remained scoreless until bottom of the fifth inning, when the Purple Knights scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead. The Mavericks were held scoreless until the last licks in the top of the seventh, when freshman Reed Farrier (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury) picked up the RBI as junior Chris Salvo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Lakeland) crossed the plate after walking to get reach base.
Farrier went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Salvo went 2-for-3.
Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks return to action tomorrow, Apr. 13, as they close out the four-game series with Bridgeport at 12:00 p.m.
