Greig Pitches Another Gem as Baseball Takes Game One of Doubleheader Against Stonehill

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2014) – Junior Bryan Greig (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout in a 2-0 victory as the Mercy College baseball team split a doubleheader with the Skyhawks of Stonehill College. The Mavericks record now stands at 11-19 overall, while the Skyhawks record now stands at 19-15 overall.

 

Game 1: Mercy 2, Stonehill 0

Mercy scored its first run in the bottom of the first inning as junior Sal Palumbo (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) singled to score fellow classmate Chris Salvo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Lakeland), who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. Palumbo would also drive in the second run, as he singled down the right field line to score sophomore Scott Hagan (Mamaroneck, N.Y. / Mamaroneck [SUNY Binghamton]), who had reached on a hit by pitch.

Palumbo finished 2-for-3 with two RBI while Greig struck seven batters and picked up his fourth win of the season.

 

Game 2: Stonehill 6, Mercy 0

The Skyhawks took Game Two by scoring three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Senior Joseph Gismondi (East Meadow, N.Y. / East Meadow) went 1-for-3 while freshman Blake Hasbrouck (Middletown, N.Y. / Middletown [Orange CC]) went 1-for-2 with a walk.

 

Head Coach Bob Greiner and the Mavericks return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 22, as they will host the Warriors of Nyack College at 3:00 p.m.
