Sieber, Gross, Moquin, Johnstone Named to Final ECC Softball Weekly Report

Box Score 2 CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2014) – Mercy College softball senior Mary Sieber (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) has been named the East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for Week Nine. Freshmen Julie Gross (Port Monmouth, N.J. / Middletown North) and Jordyn Moquin (Southington, Conn. / Southington) have also been named Co-Rookies of the Week, while graduate student Ashley Johnstone (Bellmore, N.Y. / John F. Kennedy) made the Honor Roll.

Sieber posted a perfect 4-0 record with four complete games in all four starts over the final week of her collegiate career, picking up victories over Dowling College, the University of Bridgeport, Nyack College and St. Thomas Aquinas College. She compiled a 1.46 ERA while striking out 10 batters and posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 11 chances. Sieber ends her career as the program's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, appearances, games started and innings pitched.
Gross batted .481 (13-of-27) while posting a .500 OBP and .593 slugging percentage, including four multi-hit games, as the Mavericks went 7-1 over the final full week of the season. Splitting time between left field, second base and shortstop, she still posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage while scoring 10 runs and driving in eight.
Moquin recorded a .474 batting average (9-of-19) with a .500 OBP and .842 slugging percentage to help Mercy go 7-1 over the final full week of the season. She drove in a whopping 14 runs, including a team-season-high six in one game, scored four runs and blasted a homer while not striking out a single time.
Johnstone batted .562 (9-of-16) with a .632 OBP and .750 slugging percentage while recording a hit in every game. She totaled seven runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases while posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in right field.
This is Sieber's second Pitcher of the Week award and Moquin's second Rookie of the Week award this season, while Gross and Johnstone garner their first honors to bring the Mavericks' total to a record 12 on the year.
