Game 1: STAC 6, Mercy 4
STAC led 4-1 as the Mavericks came up to bat in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sophomore Scott Hagan (Mamaroneck, N.Y. / Mamaroneck [SUNY Binghamton]) was hit by a pitch to reach base and senior Jesus Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y. / Fordham Prep [NJIT]) doubled down the left field line, which moved Hagan to third. Junior Giovanni Lasalandra (Warwick, N.Y. / Warwick Valley) pinch-hit for freshman Reed Farrier (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury) and doubled to score both Jaile and Hagan to cut the STAC lead to 4-3.
STAC answered by scoring two runs in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 6-3. The Mavericks attempted to rally as senior Ken Post (Closter, N.J. / St. Joseph's Regional) doubled and then scored on a Hagan ground-rule double to cut the lead to 6-4, but the Spartans were able to pick up the third out to get the win.
Lasalandra led the way with two RBI, while Hagan and senior Andrew Kendel (Maywood, N.J. / Hackensack) added an RBI each.
Game 2: STAC 7, Mercy 5
STAC took an early 4-0 lead with the Mavericks coming to bat in the bottom of the second inning. Junior Chris Salvo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Lakeland) reached base on an error by the third baseman and Jaile doubled to put runners on first and third. Junior Blake Hasbrouck (Middletown, N.Y. / Middletown [Orange CC]) took advantage of the situation by doubling to left field to score both Salvo and Jaile, cutting the lead to 4-2.
After junior Joseph Gismondi (East Meadow, N.Y. / East Meadow) walked and freshman Dan Cleary (Smithtown, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) singled to load the bases, Lasalandra earned an RBI after getting hit by a pitch to put Mercy within one run at 4-3. The Mavericks were not finished as Post singled up the middle to score Gismondi and tie the game up at 4-4.
Mercy took the lead in the bottom of the sixth as pinch-running senior Chris Fesler (Middle Village, N.Y. / St. Francis Prep) stole home on a double steal to lead 5-4. Matt Nalbone (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) did his best to hold the one-run lead as he struck out a batter with two runners on to keep the lead safe going into the eighth. STAC eventually took the lead in the top of the ninth to pick up the win.
Nalbone pitched 8 1/3 innings, striking out three batters
