Cruz, Levy Score First Goals of Season as Men's Soccer Faces No. 1 SNHU

(Sept. 13, 2014) – Seniors Alex Cruz (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and Andrew Levy (Bayside, N.Y. / Berkeley Coll.) each netted their first goal of the season as the Mercy College men's soccer team traveled to defending national champion No. 1 Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon.
The Penmen rode a big first half to a 6-2 victory, improving to 3-0 to start the year while the Mavericks drop to 0-4.
Mercy went down early as SNHU score four goals in the first 13 minutes and built up a 6-0 lead at halftime. A late rally by the Mavericks saw Cruz and Levy net within seven minutes of each other, with junior Juan Gatti (New Rochelle, N.Y. / Monroe CC) assisting Cruz's strike. Sophomore Kieran Moran (Bronx, N.Y. / Bloomfield Coll.) made two saves against the only shots he faced over 45 minutes in the second half, while junior Luis Lizarzaburu (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Yorktown) stopped five shots in the first half.
Head Coach Chris Smith and the Mavericks will look to pick up a win as they open conference play at East Coast Conference rival Molloy College on Saturday, Sept. 20.
