Soler Scores as Field Hockey Faces Assumption
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2014)- Sophomore Vanessa Soler (Port Monmouth, N.J. / Middletown North) scored as the Mercy College field hockey team faced the Greyhounds of Assumption College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Greyhounds came away with the 4-1 win to improve to 1-2 overall, while the Mavericks fall to 0-3.
Mercy's lone goal of the afternoon came in the 47th minute, as Soler received the ball from sophomore Emily Michaels (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) during a scrum on the Assumption goal line.
Soler's goal cut the Greyhound lead in half, but two unanswered goals allowed sealed the game for Assumption.
For Mercy, sophomore Jackie Ballin (Cupertino, Calif. / Cupertino) took a team-high six shots, while senior Giana Magosin (Pleasantville, N.J. / Egg Harbor Township) took four shots. Freshman Olivia Kelly (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) made seven saves in 70 minutes of work.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, as they will host the Yellow Jackets of American International College on Founders' Day at 12:00 p.m.
