White Posts Season High Hit Percentage as Volleyball Hosts ECC Foe LIU Post

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2014) – Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas) posted a season-high .353 hitting percentage with 17 kills as the Mercy College volleyball team hosted East Coast Conference foe LIU Post on Thursday night.

The Pioneers left with a 3-0 victory to improve to 5-5 overall and start ECC play 1-0, while the Mavericks are now 2-6 (0-1).

Mercy hung tight early in the first set before LIU Post stretched out to a 20-15 lead and held on for the 25-21 win.  The Pioneers attack took off from there despite the Mavericks' best efforts, leading LIU Post to 25-17 and 25-15 wins in the final two sets to take the match.

White led the match with 17 kills for her eighth double-digit performance in as many games this season.  Junior Abi Foti (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) chipped in with six kills on a .294 hitting percentage while sophomore Floriana Rraci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. / Walter Panas) recorded 11 digs.  Senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz. / Seton Catholic Prep) just missed a third double-double in as many matchdays with 22 assists and nine digs.  Freshman Sa'Naya Johnson (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth) totaled four blocks, including one solo.

Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks will head to NYIT (6-4, 2-0) for a tri-match with Caldwell College (4-5) on Saturday, Sept. 20.
