White's Sixth 20-KIll Effort Leads Volleyball at Roberts Wesleyan, Daemen
Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2014) – Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas) recorded her sixth 20-kill match of the year as the Mercy College volleyball team took on upstate East Coast Conference foes Roberts Wesleyan College and Daemen College on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
The Mavericks dropped both matches to fall to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in the ECC, while RWC improves to 6-5 (2-2) and Daemen is now 1-14 (1-3).
Mercy 1, Roberts Wesleyan 3
Mercy rallied from a late 23-20 deficit to take the first set, 25-23, but Roberts Wesleyan matched the feat in the second set, 25-21, to level the match. The Redhawks kept the momentum going in a 25-13 third set win and clinched the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth despite a late push by the Mavericks.
White recorded 21 kills while senior McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz. / Seton Catholic Prep) made 34 assists and served up three aces. Sophomore Floriana Rraci (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. / Walter Panas) notched 14 digs while senior Sonia Morales (San Fernando, Calif. / L.A. Mission Coll.) posted a career-high eight blocks.
Mercy 0, Daemen 3
The Mavericks looked on their way to ending the upstate trip on a high note early, but a furious Daemen rally won the Wildcats the first set, 26-24, and another comeback saw the Mavericks down 2-0 after a 25-21 Daemen win in the second set. Mercy fell behind early and never quite caught up in the third set, 25-22.
White tallied 10 kills while Ronan made 21 assists as Rraci and junior Abi Foti (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford) each recorded nine digs.
Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks will look to bounce back as they host Dowling College (8-7, 3-2) on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
