White Records Second Double-Double in Three Matches as Volleyball Faces GCU
Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Sept. 7, 2014) – Senior Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev. / Douglas) posted her second double-double in three games to start the season as the Mercy College volleyball team took on host Georgian Court University on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks fell, 3-0, and are now 0-3 after the opening weekend while GCU improves to 2-2.
The match was evenly contested throughout. Georgian Court squeaked out a 25-22 victory in the first set, and the second looked to be going the Mavericks' way as they posted a match-best .333 hitting percentage, but GCU forced extra points and came out with the 27-25 victory. The Mavericks would drop the third and final set, 25-18.
White smacked 10 kills on a season-high .296 hitting percentage while adding 11 digs. Freshman Sa'Naya Johnson (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth) continued her impressive first week of collegiate play with eight kills on a .571 hitting percentage in just a single set and added seven digs.
Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks will look to bounce back in their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when they host Felician College at 7:00 p.m.
