Ballin Takes Career High Seven Shots as Field Hockey Hosts St. Anselm
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 7, 2014) – Sophomore Jackie Ballin (Cupertino, Calif. / Cupertino) took a career-high seven shots as the Mercy College field hockey team hosted the Hawks of Saint Anselm College on Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks won the game, 3-0, and start the season at 1-0, while the Mavericks start the season 0-1.
A fairly even first half saw Mercy take two shots in the first five minutes. The Hawks threated at times, but did not convert as the game remained scoreless at the break.
The second half saw the Mavericks get more aggressive when they had the ball. Ballin took six of her seven shots in the second half, but the Hawks were able to score three unanswered goals late to put the once-scoreless game out of reach for the Mavericks.
For Mercy, senior Danielle Jones (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) took two shots and recorded a defender save, while senior Giana Magosin (Pleasantville, N.J. / Egg Harbor Township) only took one shot. Freshman Olivia Kelly (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) had five saves in her collegiate debut in 70 minutes of work.
Head Coach Kayte Kinsley and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13, as they travel to Brookhaven, N.Y. to face the Golden Lions of Dowling College at 1:00 p.m.
