Augustine Posts Seventh Double Figure Game as Women's Basketball Faces ECC Foe NYIT
Box Score OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Jan. 10, 2015)- Senior Tanayzha Augustine (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Poughkeepsie) posted her seventh double figure game of the season, as she scored 17 points in a 83-64 loss to the Bears of NYIT on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears improve to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks fall to 7-6 overall and 1-5 in the ECC.
The game remained close early, as junior Erin Copeland (Kansas City, Kan. / Univ. of Illinois-Springfield) made a layup to even the game at 6-6. The Bears responded with a 17-2 run over the next five minutes before junior Tatiana Parish (Los Angeles, Calif. / Mt. San Antonio CC) knocked down a triple to end the scoreless drought.
The Mavericks were unable to recovery, as NYIT ballooned the lead to 23 as the first half came to a close. Shanice Allen led all scorers with the 19 points at the intermission.
In the second half, the Mavericks outscored the Bears 37-33 but were unable to climb out of the halftime deficit. Augustine went a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe to lead all second half scorers.
Senior Brandone Roberts (Jessup, Md. / Nyack College) and freshman Monet Keane-Dawes (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Midwood) both chipped in with eight points off the bench, while freshman Latisha Clark (Peekskill, N.Y. / Peekskill) scored six points and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks return to action on Friday, Jan. 16, as they will host the Wildcats of Daemen College at 5:30 p.m.
