Goodson connected on a jumper off an assist from junior Erin Copeland (Kansas City, Kan. / Univ. of Illinois-Springfield) with 1:21 left to take their first lead of the game since, 2-0. Verrelle raced down the floor and connected from downtown to give the Golden Lions a 27-26 lead at the break.

In the second half, a three pointer by junior Tatiana Parish (Los Angeles, Calif. /Mt. San Antonio CC), bookended layups by Dowling's Jessica Kalbfleisch, as the Golden Lions held a 31-29 lead with 18:29 remaining. Mercy increased it's lead to three on a triple by Keane-Dawes and a layup by Augustine.

Verrelle was the catalyst for the Golden Lions offense, as she either scored or assisted on each field goal during a 17-7 run that spanned the next five minutes. Dowling jumped out to a 48-40 lead with 9:16 remaining. Augustine kept the Golden Lions from breaking the game open, as she scored on three separate trips down the floor to keep the Mavericks within striking distance at 50-44 with just under eight minutes to play.
