DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2015) - Sophomore goalkeeper Kwantarian Van der Lara (Conway, Ark./Marshalltown CC) made five saves as the Mercy College men's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 setback to Queens College in an East Coast Conference (ECC) showdown on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (5-9-1, 3-5-1 ECC) fail to build off their win at Dowling on Wednesday, while the Knights (6-8-0, 6-2-0 ECC) remain in second place in the ECC standings.

Freshman Donovan Cesar (Jamaica, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) led the Mavericks offensively, having two shots throughout the contest. Graduate student Juan Gatti (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Monroe CC) and freshman Lucca Lacerda (Passos, Brazil/Monroe College) contributed one shot on goal each but were unable to score.

Leading Queens was Isaiah Kossine who scored the lone goal of the game off an assist by Nicholas Mausewicz. Goalkeeper Robbie Webster made two saves to earn the win in net.

Both teams played a scoreless first half with Van der Lara keeping the Mavericks in the game, recording three saves before half time.

It was not until 58:49 in the contest that Kossine put the Knights on the board with a goal off a rebound shot by Mausewicz. The goal proved to be the game-winner as the Mavericks late offensive push came up short.

The Knights controlled the game offensively, taking twelve total shots in the game, three of those shots coming from Paul Sandoval. Queens also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Chris Smith and the Mavericks will look to get another win as they host Molloy College in their final regular season game on Saturday, October 31st at 3 p.m.
