DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2015) – Sophomore Heidi Serna (West Covina, Calif./South Hills) and freshman Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) both scored as the Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 2-2 tie with No. 9 Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (3-3-2) earn their second tie of the year, while the Golden Knights (7-1-2) are now 4-0-1 in road contests.

Noble finished with a game-high four shots on goal and now has three goals on the year, while Serna picked up her second goal of the season. Sophomore Alyssa Iannuzzi (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) and freshman Molly O'Callaghan (Commack, N.Y./Commack) each finished with an assist and sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Price (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) made four saves in her second start of the year.

Saint Rose received goals from Danae Kaldaridou and Roxana Hernandez, while goalkeeper Madison Taylor made six saves.

In a rematch of last year's East Region final that the Golden Knights won 3-0, the Mavericks dominated play throughout but were unable to find the game-winning goal.

Despite maintaining possession in Saint Rose's end of the field for most of the first half, the visitors from Albany drew first blood as Kaldaridou took a cross from Morgan Burchhardt and tapped it in the right side of the net to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead after nine minutes.

That would conclude the scoring in the first half as Saint Rose headed into halftime up 1-0 with a 5-2 edge in shots.

The second stanza saw the Mavericks outplay the No. 9 team in the country, holding a 10-7 edge in shots in the period. Serna finally got Mercy on the board in the 68th minute as she fired a shot from well outside the box off a pass from Iannuzzi to even things up at 1-1.

However, the Golden Knights came back with an answer of their own in the 74th minute with Hernandez scoring off a Burchhardt feed to build a 2-1 advantage.

Mercy did not go away and just over two minutes later O'Callaghan fed Noble a ball off a give-and-go and Noble ensued to put one past Taylor to tie the game up at 2-2.

The Mavericks continued to apply pressure to the Saint Rose backline late in regulation but were unable to score so the two teams went to overtime.

The opening overtime period saw Mercy control the ball in the Golden Knights end of the field for nearly the entire period, but were unable to find the game-winner despite all of the scoring opportunities in the frame.

The Mavericks once again controlled play in the second overtime but Saint Rose was able to keep Mercy off the board and the two teams settled for a tie.

Mercy concluded the game with a 17-12 edge in shots and outshot the Golden Knights 5-0 in the overtime periods.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 7th as they play at ECC foe NYIT at 1 p.m.
