The action picked up in the second half as the two teams combined for 17 shots with Mercy holding a 9-8 advantage in the period. NYIT came out of the locker rooms with a shot that hit the crossbar in the 47th minute, but could not find the back of the net until the 56th minute when Patel scored to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
NYIT looked to have the game in hand as the action headed into the 67th minute, but Lacerda got the Mavericks on the board with his third of the year, off a pass from Cesar, to make it 2-1.
The Bears came back on the offensive but were unable to tack on an insurance goal and Sanguina would tie the game up in the 77th minute as he took his rebound and headed it past the keeper to knot the score up at 2-2.
The game remained tied at the end of regulation and overtime was needed.
After expending a lot of energy to force overtime, the Mavericks would see their bid for a win come up short as Barbosa found the back of the net in the second minute of overtime to give the Bears a 3-2 win.
