BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2015) – Despite a match-high 14 kills from freshman Peyton Olson (Albany, Ore./West Albany) and a career-high 27 digs from freshman Brianna Heffernan (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), the Mercy College volleyball team concluded its 2015 season with a 3-0 (16-25, 13-25, 19-25) setback to LIU Post in an East Coast Conference (ECC) tilt on Thursday night at the Pratt Recreation Center.

The Mavericks (7-26, 2-14 ECC) end their campaign with two more wins than a year ago, while the Pioneers (21-9, 9-6 ECC) secure the final spot in the season-ending ECC Tournament.

Junior Andrea Velasco (Whittier, Calif./Rio Hondo College) added a season-high 18 digs and freshman Brooke Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Demarest) finished one dig shy of a double-double with 15 assists and nine digs. Senior Abigail Foti (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) concluded her career as a Maverick with five kills.

Leading LIU Post was Rachel Londot who ended the night with a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs.

The Pioneers set the tone early for what was to come as they opened up the contest on an 8-0 run and led 11-1 before the Mavericks fought their way back with a 15-9 run to get within four, 20-16. However, the hosts ended any threat of a comeback with five unanswered to close out the set and take a 1-0 lead.

Mercy held its own early on in the second set, trailing by only one, 11-10, but LIU Post ensued with nine of the next ten points to take a 20-11 lead. The Pioneers cruised the rest of the way to take a 2-0 advantage.

Following three consecutive kills by Olson in the third set, the Mavericks held a 7-5 lead. The hosts responded with a 9-3 spurt to build a 14-10 advantage. Mercy did not back down and came back to even up the set at 18-18, but LIU Post had an answer again as they ended the frame on a 7-1 run to close out the set and match.

The Mavericks hit .065 on the night with 25 kills and 71 digs, while the Pioneers hit an efficient .235 with 46 kills and 72 digs.
