WATERBURY, Conn. (Nov. 15, 2015) – Despite a game-high two shots on goal from freshman Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) and three saves from sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Price (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium), the No. 3 seed Mercy College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to No. 4 seed and host Post University in the ECAC Division II Women's Soccer Championship Game on Sunday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

The Mavericks (8-7-3) conclude the season with a winning record for the third consecutive season, while the Eagles (11-6-2) end their season on a two-game winning streak.

Also recording a shot on goal for Mercy was junior Samantha Longo (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), redshirt freshman Ileen Mejia (Whittier, Calif./La Mirada) and freshmen Lauren Calderaro (La Verne, Calif./Bonita), Cassidy Campe (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) and Corinna Ferrante (Patchogue, N.Y./-Patchogue-Medford).

Post received goals from Katharina Mertz and Sam Rodriguez, while goalkeeper Brittany Carroll stopped seven shots to post the shutout.

Mercy controlled play throughout the first half but were unable to breakthrough against the hosts. The Mavericks held an 8-1 edge in shots in the opening half, forcing Carroll to make three saves in the frame. However, neither team was able to get on the board and the two teams headed into halftime tied at 0-0.

The second stanza saw Mercy come out firing as Ferrante and Mejia forced Carroll to make a pair of stops less than five minutes into the period.

Post answered with a pair of shots on goal of their own in the 62nd and 65th minutes, but Price was up to the challenge and stopped the shots to keep the game knotted up at 0-0.

With less than the ten minutes remaining in the second half it looked like the Mavericks may be faced with another overtime situation. The Eagles had other plans as Mertz connected off a free kick from the top of the box following a Mercy foul to give Post a 1-0 lead in the 84th minute.

The Mavericks came right back with an opportunity to tie in the 88th minute but Carroll denied Calderaro the equalizer and the score remained 1-0. The Eagles would add an insurance goal in the 89th minute to make it 2-0 and seal the championship win.

Mercy ended the afternoon with a 14-6 edge in shots and 7-5 advantage in shots on goal, while also maintaining 6-1 margin in corner kicks.
