Heffernan Brings Up Match-High-Tying 13 Digs as Volleyball Travels to Queens
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. After the Mavericks took the prior meeting in straight sets in Dobbs Ferry, the Knights came out with something to prove and controlled the action for most of the contest.
The opening set saw Mercy get off to a 13-10 start, forcing a Queens timeout. The Knights responded out of the timeout with a 9-1 run to take a 19-14 lead and led the rest of the way to take a 1-0 lead.
Queens built a 6-4 advantage in the second set before Olson slammed home a kill to make it 6-5. That would be the closest the Mavericks got for the remainder of the set as the home team ended the frame on a 19-8 run to take a two-set lead.
In the final set of the night, the Knights and Mavericks were tied at 2-2 early on before Queens ensued with an 8-1 run to get a 10-3 lead. The Knights cruised the remainder of the set to seal the win and salvage a split in the season series.
Mercy hit .022 on the evening with 19 kills and 33 digs, while Queens hit an efficient .330 with 40 kills and 47 digs.
Head Coach Kelly Wengerter and the Mavericks resume action on Thursday, November 5th when they host Molloy College at 7 p.m.
