DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 9, 2015) – Despite the fourth double-double in the past four games from senior Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y./SUNYIT), the Mercy College women's basketball team fell to Molloy College, 69-40, in their ECC home opener on Wednesday evening at Mercy Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Mavericks have now dropped to 2-6 and are currently 0-2 in the ECC. The Lions (2-4) snapped their four game losing streak with the win and are now 1-0 in conference play.

Goodson was the lone Maverick to score in double figures, finishing the night with 14 points while adding 14 rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Goodson has scored in double figures in the past four games for the Mavericks. Senior Erin Copeland (Kansas City, Kan./Univ. of Illinois-Springfield) drained eight points while adding four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

For Molloy, three members of the Lion squad finished the night in double figures. Alexia O'Connor led the visitors with 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Ally Leftridge was not far behind, adding 16 points, five rebounds, and two steals for the Lions. Aaliyah McDonald contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal for Molloy College.

After losing their last four games, the Lions entered the game on a mission. The first quarter was controlled by O'Connor, who would score 13 of her 18 points in that time. The Mavericks were led by Goodson, who added four points and two assists in the first quarter. Molloy built a 24-11 advantage after one quarter of play and did not look back as they controlled the action the rest of the way.

The Lions opened up the second quarter with five unanswered points, until junior Paxton Reddington (Holmdel, N.J./Brookdale CC) sunk two free-throws at the 8:22 mark to put the Mavericks on the board for the second quarter. The Mavericks would hold the Lions to just 13 points for the quarter, but were only able to put up 10 and headed into halftime down 37-21.

Freshman Cynthia Perez (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) would be the first to score after half-time by sinking a free-throw at the 9:33 mark, followed by a Goodson lay-up with 7:46 on the clock. It would be a 7-0 run by Molloy College that would essentially be the cushion they needed to put the game away. Mercy trailed 59-29 at the end of the third quarter and the visitors cruised in the fourth quarter to the win.

The Mavericks ended the night shooting 23.0 percent from the floor (14-of-61). Mercy shot 50.0% from the free throw line, finishing the night 10-of-20. Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks look to get back in the win column as they host Queens College in an ECC matchup on Saturday, December 12th at 12 p.m.
