BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2015) – Despite a season-high 24 points from junior Jason Quijada (Monsey, N.Y./Rockland CC), the Mercy College men's basketball team dropped an 85-57 decision to East Coast Conference foe LIU Post on Wednesday night at the Pratt Recreation Center.

The Mavericks (7-14, 2-13 ECC) fail to sweep the season series against the Pioneers for the first time since the 1991-92 season and have dropped four in a row overall, while LIU Post (12-10, 7-7 ECC) has now won four of their last five games.

Quijada was the high scorer for both teams going 8-of-15 from the floor and 4-of-7 from downtown to go along with three rebounds. Graduate student Terrance Murchie (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) came off the bench to score seven points and collect four boards.

Leading four in double figures for the Pioneers was Greg Dotson who had 18 points and a game-high seven boards.

After defeating LIU Post for the first time since 2006 on January 7th in Dobbs Ferry, the Mavericks looked to sweep the season series for the first time since the 1991-92 season.

However, the perennial ECC power Pioneers had other plans jumping out of the gates early by scoring the first seven points of the contest and would not look back as they carried a 41-21 lead into the intermission.

LIU Post got off to the strong start due to a strong shooting half as they hit 46.7 percent of their shots and seven threes compared to just 30 percent shooting by the visiting Mavericks.

The second half saw the Pioneers build on their lead and take home the victory.

The lone bright spot in the second half for Mercy was Quijada who poured in 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and went 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.

The Pioneers ended the night shooting at a 49.2 percent clip, while the Mavericks struggled on the night shooting 33.9 percent.

Head Coach Dr. Jody King and Mercy look to bounce back as they host NYIT on Saturday, February 14th at 2:30 p.m.
