Roberts Collects Double-Double as Women's Basketball Hosts NYIT

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 14, 2015) - Senior Brandone Roberts (Jessup, Md./Nyack College) collected a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds as the Mercy College women's basketball team fell to the Bears of NYIT, 103-77.
The Bears improve to 16-6 overall and 11-4 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks fall to 8-15 overall and 2-14 in the ECC.
A tight game early saw freshman Casey Sullivan (East Lyme, Conn./St. Bernard's) connect on a triple that allowed the Mavericks to take a 7-6 lead with 17:18 remaining. The Bears answered with a 14-3 run that ultimately propelled them into halftime with a 50-37 lead.
The one bright spot in the first half saw Roberts lead all scorers with 14 points and nine rebounds, including seven offensive boards in the first stanza.
In second half, senior Tanayzha Augustine (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Poughkeepsie) picked up her fourth foul in the opening minute, which saddled her to bench. At that point, the Bears took advantage and ballooned their halftime lead to as large as 33.
The Bears had four starters in double figures led by Julie Williams with 20 points. Mercy finished with three players in double figures, including Sullivan who finished with 15 points and connected on five triples.
Junior Tatiana Parish (Los Angeles, Calif./ Mt. San Antonio CC) scored 13 points and connected on three triples.
Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks return to action on Friday Feb. 20th, as they will travel to Rochester, N.Y. to the face Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College at 6:00 p.m.
