Baseball Faces So. New Hampshire on Second Day in South Carolina

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (Feb. 21, 2015)-  The Mavericks fell to 0-4 overall, as they dropped a doubleheader to the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday.

The Penman improve to 4-3 overall.

Game 1: SNHU 2, Mercy 1

Sophomore Matt Nalbone (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) tossed a one-hitter as the Penmen scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth, to vault them to a 2-1 victory.  SNHU scored the first run of the afternoon on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. The Mavericks evened the game at 1-1, as freshman John Young (New Hyde Park, N.Y. / Archbishop Molloy) reached on a fielder choice, stole second and scored on a passed ball in the top of the eighth. Nalbone struck out four batters in eight innings pitched, while Cole Warren struck out 13 batters for the Penmen in the victory.

Game 2: SNHU 16, Mercy 2  

Junior Scott Hagan (Mamaroneck, N.Y. / SUNY Binghamton) went 1-for-4, while senior Sal Palumbo (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) went 1-for-1 with a run scored and senior Bryan Greig (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) scored a run. SNHU scored runs in the five and six runs in separate innings, while the Mavericks just managed runs in the bottom of the fourth and eight innings, respectively.  A full recap and box score of game 2 will be available later today.

Head Coach Jason Lamando and the Mavericks return to action tomorrow, Sunday Feb. 22nd, as they face the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in the finale of their trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.
