Parish Knocks Down Five Triples as Women's Basketball Hosts Molloy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2015)- Junior Tatiana Parish (Los Angeles, Calif. / Mt. San Antonio CC) connected on five triples to finish with 18 points as the Mercy College women's basketball team dropped a close decision to the Lions of Molloy College, 63-60 on Wednesday evening.

The Lions improve 9-11 overall and 5-8 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks fall to 7-13 overall and 1-12 in the ECC.

A very tight game early, saw the Lions take a 21-15 lead on a layup by Aliyah McDonald at the 8:25 mark of the first half. The Mavericks responded with a 9-1 run, that was anchored by Parish scoring seven of her 10 first half points during the run. Mercy tied the game up for the fifth time at 22-22 with 6:22 to play.

The first half had seven ties and eight lead changes. Freshman Monet Keane-Dawes (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Midwood) scored eight points and went 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the first half. Keane-Dawes made three free-throws in a row to give Mercy a 30-29 lead with 02:06 remaining. Molloy converted two late buckets by Taylor Gallagher and Alexia O'Connor to put them up at the break.

Parish led all scorers at the half with 10, while senior Brandone Roberts (Jessup, Md. /Nyack College) nearly collected a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, including six offensive boards.

In the second half, Molloy held a 43-38 lead on back-to-back triples by O'Connor and Maggie Salomone with 16:15 remaining. Mercy answered with a 9-0 run that was capped off by a Parish triple to put the Mavericks in front at 48-43 with 13:38 remaining. Molloy answered back with a 7-0 run of their own, to even the game up at 50 with just under 12 minutes to play.

The Lions and Mavericks traded the lead until an offensive rebound and stick back by Ally Leftridge give Molloy a 61-58 advantage with 02:42 remaining. Mercy would cut the lead to one, as senior Tanayzha Augustine (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Poughkeepsie) scored off an assist from junior Erin Copeland (Kansas City, Kan. / Univ. of Illinois-Springfield) with 27 second left.

After Molloy sank two free-throws, Parish launched a game tying three pointer from the top of the key that missed the rim and sailed out of bounds, as Molloy got out of the Mercy Gymnasium with the victory.

Mercy had four players in double figures, including Roberts who finished with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Augustine finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Keane Dawes finished with 14 points and four rebounds.

Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 7, as they will host the Knights of Queens College at 12:30 p.m.
