DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 1, 2015)- Senior Bryan Greig (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) struck out six batters as the Mercy College baseball team dropped its home opener to the No. 9 Ravens of Franklin Pierce University, 3-0 on Sunday Morning.

The Ravens remain undefeated as they improve to 6-0 overall, while the Mavericks fall to 0-6 overall

Mercy almost scored first in the bottom of the fourth, as sophomore Michael Grudzinski (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) singled and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Bryan Torres (Bronx, N.Y. / All Hallows). Grudzinksi would then advance to third on a balk by Ravens pitcher Brenden O' Rourke, but the Mavericks would leave Grudzinski on base to end the inning.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh when John Razzino singled, stole second and then advanced to third on a throwing error. Franklin Pierce would get on the scoreboard two batters later as Matt O'Herron hit a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Razzino to cross the plate for the 1-0 lead.

O'Herron wasn't finished yet as he bunted in the second Ravens' run and then scored the third insurance run on another throwing error.

Freshman Liam Slattery (Floral Park, N.Y. / Archbishop Molloy) went 1-for-1 with a double, while senior Sal Palumbo (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) and junior James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y. / Cornwall) each recorded a hit.

A second game was originally scheduled to be played, but was cancelled to due snow that began falling late in the first game.

Head Coach Jason Lamando and the Mavericks will return to action on Friday, Mar. 6th, as they will host the Chargers of Dominican College in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
