Baseball Holds Lions Scoreless in Doubleheader Sweep

Box Score 2 DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 11, 2015) – The Mercy College baseball team picked up its first two victories of the season with a sweep of the Lions from Lincoln University on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy field.
The Mavericks improve to 2-6 overall, while the Lions fall to 1-6 overall.
Game 1: Mercy 6 Lincoln (Pa.) 0
Junior Christian Hock (Trumbull, Conn. / Franklin Pierce Univ.) tossed a one hit gem with nine strikeouts to earn his first victory of the season. Senior Bryan Greig (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored, while freshman John Young (New Hyde Park, N.Y. / Archbishop Molloy) went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
Greig opened the scoring in one game as he singled to center to score junior Scott Hagan (Mamaroneck, N.Y. /SUNY Binghamton) and freshman Bryan Torres (Bronx, N.Y. / All Hallows). Mercy led 2-0 after one full inning. Torres returned the favor as he drove in senior Blake Hasbrouck (Middletown, N.Y. / Orange CC) to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
Young continued the Mavericks strong hitting as he drove in Greig, who led off the inning with a standup double, to take a 4-0 lead. Freshman Liam Slattery (Floral Park, N.Y. / Archbishop Molloy) drove in two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Game 2: Mercy 12 Lincoln (Pa.) 0
Torres went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI's and a homerun as the Mavericks rolled in the second game. Hagan smacked a three-run homer in the bottom of the second, as the Mavericks batted around the order to the tune of six runs on seven hits. Sophomore Bryan Gutierrez (Bronx, N.Y. / In-tech Academy) benefited from the Mavericks hot bats as he went 1-for-1 with two RBI's after entering into the game as a pinch hitter for junior Justin Palladino (Yonkers, N.Y. /Westchester C.C.).
Greig picked up the victory as he struck out eight batters in four innings pitched.
Head Coach Jason Lamando and the Mavericks will return to action tomorrow, Mar. 12th, as they will face the Wildcats of Wilmington University in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
