Baseball Hosts LIU Post in Series Finale
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 24, 2015) - Senior Sal Palumbo (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) went 2-for-4, while fellow classmate Bryan Greig (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) hit an RBI triple as the Mercy College baseball team dropped the series finale to the Pioneers of LIU Post University, 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pioneers improve to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks fall to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in the ECC.
Mercy crossed the dish first as Greig hit an RBI triple to score sophomore Michael Grudzinski (Islip, N.Y. / Islip), who walked to start the inning, giving the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. LIU Post would even the game at 1-1 in the second, as they took advantage of a throwing error that would have ended the inning for the Mavericks. The error allowed John Bellock to hit an RBI single to center field, allowing Matt Bowers to cross the plate.
The Mavericks bats went quiet as they only managed three hits for the rest of the game. The Pioneers manufactured runs in the fourth, sixth and ninth innings. Dan Jagiello earned his first victory of the season, while junior James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y. / Cornwall) took the loss as he falls to 1-2.
Head Coach Jason Lamando and the Mavericks will return to action on Friday, Mar. 27th, as they will face the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College at Mercy field, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
