Kline Nets Four Goals in the First Half as Women's Lacrosse Rolls Over UDC

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Mar. 6, 2015) - Redshirt senior Nicole Kline (Deer Park, N.Y. / Deer Park) netted four goals on four shots in the first half, as the Mercy College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 15-2 victory over the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia on the campus of Georgetown University, this evening.

The Mavericks improve to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the East Coast Conference. Amber Walls and Aaliyah Carter netted goals for the Firebirds, who fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.

The Mavericks jumped all over the Firebirds from the opening draw control as they netted 12 goals on 16 shots in the first stanza. Mercy took a 3-0 lead in the blink of an eye, before the Firebirds netted their first goal of the game. The Mavericks would close the half with seven unanswered goals, including two netted by senior Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) and junior Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston), to take a 12-2 lead into halftime.

Senior Keri Watson (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) and sophomore Alexa Haines (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Lindenhurst) both assisted on two goals in the first half.           

The Mavericks took their foot off the gas in the second half, as they only netted three goals in the latter 30. Haines netted her first goal of the season and Kluber completed her hat-trick alongside Kline. Freshman Nicole Kleet (Huntington Station, N.Y. / Walt Whitman) finished with two goals, two assists and five groundballs, while fellow classmate Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) finished with a goal, an assist and a caused turnover.

Freshman Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y. / North Rockland) made one save and picked up the victory in her first start, while sophomore Sara Hennessey (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse Minoa) netted her first goal of the season as well. Augustine finished with two goals, two assists and two groundballs.

Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday Mar. 14th, as they will travel to East Stroudsburg, Pa. to face the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University at 3:00 p.m.
