Kleet and Watson Combine for Four Goals as Women's Lacrosse Travels to Chestnut Hill
Box Score LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. (Apr. 1, 2015)- Freshman Nicole Kleet (Huntington Station, N.Y. / Walt Whitman) and senior Keri Watson (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) both netted two goals apiece as the Mercy College Women's Lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 14-5, on Wednesday afternoon.
Jacklyn O'Leary netted five goals, while Erica McLaughlin netted three for the Griffins who improve to 5-5 overall. Senior Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) scored her sixth goal of the season for the Mavericks, who fall to 4-5 overall.
The Griffins did most of their damage in the first half, as they netted 11 unanswered goals to take an 11-0 lead at halftime. O'Leary netted all five of her goals in the first half.
Mercy outscored Chestnut Hill in the second stanza, 5-3. Watson and Kleet both scored goals in the opening 10 minutes. Kluber and Watson would net back-to-back goals with just under 10 minutes to play. Watson's second goal of the afternoon came on an assist from sophomore Sara Hennessey (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse Minoa), while Kleet's second goal was scored off a feed from Watson.
Freshman Hope Coticchio (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) finished with three groundballs and three caused turnovers, while redshirt senior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y. / Lock Haven Univ.) finished with two groundballs, two draw controls and three caused turnovers. Freshman Melissa DellaRocca (Lindenhurst, N.Y./ Lindenhurst) and redshirt senior Nicole Kline (Deer Park, N.Y./ Deer Park) both finished with four draw controls.
Sophomore Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) made two saves in 21:23 and fell to 3-5, while freshman Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y. / North Rockland) finished the final 38:37 between the pipes. Katie Joe Lang made 10 saves and improves to 5-5.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks will return to action on Saturday, April 4th, as they will travel to Lakewood, N.J. to face the Lions of Georgian Court University at 12:00 p.m.
