Game 1: Dowling 4, Mercy 3
Dowling held a 4-0 lead in the fourth, before the Mavericks rallied late. In the home half of the fourth, juniors Amanda Gardiner (Stratford, N.J. / Sterling) and Adriana Bencomo (Fresno, Calif. / Fresno City College) recorded back-to-back hits, before Couillard doubled down the right field line to score Bencomo from second.
The Mavericks continued to dwindle the Dowling lead in the fifth. Senior Angela Zayas (Livingston Manor, N.Y. / Livingston Manor Central) reached on a fielder's choice and sophomore Liza Ueno (Baldwin, N.Y. / Baldwin HS) singled through the left side to put Zayas on third. During Bencomo's at-bat, Ueno and Zayas both scored as catcher Sam Laird threw the ball into center field, clearing the bases in the process.
The Mavericks threated in the bottom of the seventh, as Ueno reached on an error and Gardiner singled through the left side to put Ueno on third. Freshman Chelsea Konyar (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax) came in to pinch run for Gardiner and Couillard was intentionally walked to load the bases for senior Michelle Duford (Maple Ridge, B.C. / Seward County C.C.). Dowling survived the late scare as Duford grounded back to the pitcher to end the game.
Game 2: Dowling 4, Mercy 2
The Mavericks scored first in the nightcap, as Duford smacked a bases loaded RBI single to score freshman Morgan Lloyd (East Lyme, Conn. / East Lyme) who reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second on an error. Mercy took a 2-0 lead in the fifth, when Ueno hit an RBI double to score freshman Melanie Palmieri (Staten Island, N.Y. / Michael J. Petrides).
The Golden Lions rallied late and took the lead as they scored on a sacrifice fly in the sixth and hit back-to-back RBI's in the seventh.
Freshman Marlena Marzigliano (Highland Mills, N.Y. / Cornwall), Couillard and Duford all recorded two hits in the nightcap.
Before the game, Coach Fazio and his staff honored Zayas, Duford and Couillard.
