DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 25, 2015) – Despite a game-high six points from senior Jesse Wood (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) on Senior Day, the No. 10 Mercy College men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-10 setback to No. 5/6 LIU Post in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

Seniors Wood, Zack Haun (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East Senior), Christian Reinauer (Sparta, N.J./Sparta), Kevin Glueckert (Bethpage, N.Y./Albany), Stephen Dunne (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East), Anthony Accardi (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Nyack), Owen Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y./McDaniel College), Owen Krezmien (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius College) and Cameron Diedrickson (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) were honored in a pregame ceremony.

The Mavericks (10-5, 5-3 ECC) close the regular season with two consecutive losses, while the Pioneers (12-2, 8-0 ECC) end the regular season perfect in ECC play.

Wood finished with a game-high-tying three goals and a game-high three assists in his final home game as a Maverick, while sophomore Nick Wilcox (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) had two goals and an assist. Junior Kyle Stockton (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) netted a goal and two assists and sophomore Daniel Speicher (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) recorded two goals. Junior Bobby McDonough (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) picked up a goal and an assist, while junior A.J. Pellati (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) made 10 saves in earning the loss.

LIU Post received three goals apiece from Matt Bellando, Matt Beccaris and Chris Caiazza.

In a matchup of nationally ranked teams, the Pioneers would show why they are among the nation's elite as they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with 7:11 left in the first quarter.

However, Mercy closed the quarter with a pair of goals from Wilcox and Wood to make it 3-2 after one quarter of play.

LIU Post opened up the second quarter with a man-up goal to make it 4-2, but Wilcox found the back of the net at the 10:01 mark to get the Mavericks back within a goal at 4-3.

The Pioneers responded with three unanswered to take a 7-3 lead with 5:58 left in the half and looked to be running away with the game. Wood would have answer just over a minute later off a feed from junior Robert Rossi (North Massapequa, N.Y./Adelphi) to make it 7-4. Another goal at the 2:33 mark by Stockton made it 7-5 and gave the Mavericks life heading into halftime.

An unassisted goal by Beccaris began the scoring in the second half to make it 8-5. Wood and Speicher came back with goals 15 seconds apart to make it 8-7.

A goal at the 9:33 mark of the third quarter by the Pioneers made it 9-7, but back-to-back goals from Speicher and Rossi evened up the score at 9-9 heading into the pivotal fourth quarter.

The momentum looked to be on Mercy's side heading into the fourth, but that came to a halt as Bellando tallied his second of the day less than a minute in to put the Pioneers back up at 10-9.

Bellando tacked on another one with 12:38 remaining to make it 11-9. Nearly seven minutes would go by before the Mavericks got back within one, 11-10, following McDonough's goal with 5:34 left.

Beccaris put up his third goal of the day with 2:58 remaining to give the Pioneers a two-goal lead, 12-10, and would hold on for the victory.

The Mavericks outshot LIU Post 35-33 and went 17-for-26 on faceoffs.

Head Coach Jordan Levine will head to NYIT on Wednesday, April 29th for a 4 pm start in an ECC Semifinal matchup.
