Augustine and Kleet Combine for Nine Goals as Women's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season Against Molloy

(Apr. 25, 2015)- Junior Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) netted five goals and freshman Nicole Kleet (Huntington Station, N.Y. / Walt Whitman) netted four goals, as the Mercy College women's lacrosse team dropped their final East Coast Conference contest of 2015 to the Lions of Molloy College, 21-16 on Saturday afternoon.
Katie O'Brien scored six and Copper Sesselman scored five for the Lions who finish the regular season at 9-6 overall and 4-4 in the ECC. Senior Marissa Kluber (Wading River, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) posted a hat-trick for the Mavericks who finish the regular season at 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the ECC.
The Mavericks took an early 2-1 lead on back-to-back goals by Augustine and redshirt senior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y. / Lock Haven Univ.). Molloy would jump back in front, as they scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead with 16:21 remaining the first half.
The Mavericks rallied to regain the lead at 7-5 with 5:36 remaining, as Senior Keri Watson (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) netted back-to-back scores and assisted on Augustine's second goal of the afternoon. Molloy fought back and would ultimately hold an 11-8 lead at halftime.
In the second half, an early goal by Kluber cut the Molloy lead to just two at 11-9, but the Lions netted another three goals to take a 14-9 advantage. Molloy ballooned their lead to as large as seven, before Augustine and Kluber netted two goals to dwindle the lead down to five at 17-12. Mercy got as close as three, but timely goals for the Lions proved to be the different when time expired.
Kluber added two groundballs and a draw control, while redshirt senior Nicole Kline (Deer Park, N.Y. / Deer Park) finished with six draw controls and one groundball. Sophomore Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) made six saves in 30 minutes of work, while freshman Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y. / North Rockland) made two saves in 30 minutes of work. Laura Vetter played all 60 minutes for the Lions and made eight saves.
