Kleet and Augustine Both Net Two Goals as Women's Lacrosse Travels to Holy Family

(Apr. 6, 2015)- Junior Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y./ Kingston) and freshman Nicole Kleet (Huntington Station, N.Y./ Whit Whitman) both netted two goals apiece as the Mercy College women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to the Tigers of Holy Family University, 19-8 on Monday afternoon.
Nicole Braungart and Paige Settar both scored four goals apiece for the Tigers who improve to 8-3 overall. Freshman Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y. / West Islip) totaled three points on two assists and one goal for the Mavericks who fall to 4-7 overall.
The Tigers took a quick 2-0 lead as they scored both goals in a span of 15 seconds. Mercy cut the lead in half, as Kleet scored an unassisted goal with 19:55 remaining. Holy Family responded with seven unanswered goals to take a 9-1 lead with 01:33 remaining. The Tigers would hold a 9-3 lead into halftime as Davidson and senior Keri Watson (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) both scored on free position shots with under 90 seconds remaining in the half.
In the second half, redshirt senior Nicole Kline (Deer Park, N.Y. / Deer Park), Kleet, Augustine, and freshman Victoria Logan (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) all scored for the Mavericks in the second stanza. Logan's goal was the first in her colligate career.
Davidson added three groundballs and a draw controls, while senior Marie Roser (Port Ewen, N.Y. / Kingston) finished with three groundballs and one caused turnover. Redshirt senior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y. / Lock Haven Univ.) finished with five draw controls, while sophomore Alexa Haines (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Lindenhurst) finished with two draw controls. Sophomore Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) made two saves and freshman Cara Moran (Tomkins Cove, N.Y. / North Rockland) made five saves as both logged 30 minutes between the pipes. Grace Deckert made eight saves in 51:02 minutes in the cage for the Tigers.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks will return to action on Thursday, Apr. 9th, as they will host the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University at 4:00 p.m.
