Hagan Rips Two RBI's as Baseball Faces Queens in Series Opener
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (May 1, 2015)- Junior Scott Hagan (Mamaroneck, N.Y. / SUNY Binghamton) drove in two runs and went 1-for-4 as the Mercy College baseball team dropped an East Coast Conference contest to the Knights of Queens College, 11-2 on Friday afternoon.
Matt Dawkins went 2-for-5 with four RBI's and two runs scored for the Knights who improve to 11-21 overall and 7-14 in the ECC. Sophomore Bryan Gutierrez (Bronx, N.Y. / In-tech Academy) went 1-for-2 with a run scored for the Mavericks who fall to 12-26 overall and 6-15 in the ECC.
Queens held a 6-0 lead after manufacturing a four run inning in the top of the sixth. Mercy cut into the Knights lead in the home half of the sixth as Hagan singled through the left side to score Gutierrez and junior James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y. / Cornwall).
The Knights would produce another big inning in the seventh as they scored five runs on three hits.
Senior Blake Hasbrouck (Middletown, N.Y. / Orange CC) and freshman Liam Slattery (Floral Park, N.Y. / Archbishop Molloy) also recorded hits for the Mavericks. Calvin Luk struck out five batters and improved to 3-1, while sophomore Matt Nalbone (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) struck out five batters and fell to 2-6. Sophomore Marc Medico (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) made a relief appearance for the Mavericks, pitching the final 2.1 innings and striking out two batters.
Head Coach Jason Lamando and the Mavericks will return to action tomorrow, May 2nd, as they will travel to Flushing, N.Y. to face the Knights of Queens College in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
